How Does Laser Teeth Whitening Work?

Teeth appearance is an important part of your smile and the way you feel overall. Laser teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure performed in a dental office and the effects can be dramatic and immediate. It is one way people might consider when opting to brighten and whiten their smiles. Laser tooth whitening has become a very popular method for tooth whitening and bleaching. You may be curious to know how this procedure works and if it is something you might want to consider when you are looking to improve your looks.

Laser teeth whitening is done in the dentist office and starts with a through cleaning of the patients teeth. After the teeth are cleaned and rinsed the tooth whitening gel is then applied to the teeth taking care to protect them gums. The whitening gel the dentist can provide is a stronger version of those found in most over the counter teeth whitening kits available at your local drug store. Once the dentist has applied the gel to the teeth a laser is directed at the teeth which helps the gel to penetrate further in to deeper layers of the tooth. This allows the gel to penetrate and remove stains that may be located beneath the surface of the tooth. The laser is applied for about an hour, and after the procedure is finished the results are immediate. The results will also last longer then those achieved through over the counter tooth whitening kits.

Depending on the condition of the teeth that need to be whitened, the results of laser whitening can be quite dramatic. Up to 8 shades whiter, lasers will penetrate the tooth so that deep stains will be removed, a method that cannot be achieved through drug store brand teeth whitening kits. The results are immediate and longer lasting too.

The only disadvantage to this method of teeth whitening is the cost. The cost will vary depending on the exact procedure preformed, and how many treatment you will need, along with the amount of whitening you wish to have take place. The other factor is where you live, if you live in a more expensive area you may end up paying more for the laser teeth whitening treatment. Prices can range from a few hundred dollars for a complete treatment in the thousands of dollars.
